Pond Study
Ages:Grade 3 – Adult
Explore first hand the incredible ecosystem created when a beaver moves into town. Participants look at the complex relationships between animals and their environment and the diversity found in such a relatively small area. Discover life forms of all shapes and sizes—from microorganisms to reptiles, from birds to amphibians. This hands-on experience is sure to bring science to life.

- The importance and function of wetlands
- The 4 types of wetland
- Biotic and abiotic components of a wetland
- Macro and micro components of a wetland
Nature Hike
Ages: Kindergarten – Adult
IAWAH staff guide participants along one of several beautiful, natural* trails, highlighting points of interest which explore the diversity of nature. Discover beaver ponds, northern mixed hardwood forest, seasonal flowers, rocks and mi nerals and poisonous and edible plants. Watch for animal tracks to discover the wildlife living nearby. Hikes are tailored to match your classroom curriculum on request.

- Using the five senses
- IAWAH’s hands-on nature collection
- Fascinating nature facts (did you know that Turkey Vultures throw up on themselves as self-defense so that other animals won’t eat them? Yikes!)
- Trail games for younger participants unable to travel longer distances
Night Hike
Ages: Grade 3 – Adult
Guided along one of IAWAH’s many trails, participants will hear fun facts and play trail games that teach us more about the world of nature after dark!

Survival Game
Ages: Grade 3 – Adult

In this engaging predator-prey game, participants role play as herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. The game is played over a large area and participants learn what it takes to survive as an animal in the wild. Offered with either a recreational or an educational focus, participants leave with an improved understanding of the diverse interactions within ecosystems including the impact of natural forces and human activity on animal populations.
