Coureur de Bois is a new specialized track to IAWAH’s leadership development program. It is uniquely designed to train and develop tripping leaders for IAWAH’s Out There trips.

Although participation in CREW or ILT is not required, CB is designed as a track that incorporates the “ILT curriculum” but adds an Out There component to it. CB is specifically looking for participants who are willing to be taught the skills and abilities specific to tripping and who are committed to attaining certifications including canoe tripping certification and first aid training.

CB starts with a three week canoe trip that will be an intense combination of traveling and teaching. Upon returning to IAWAH, CB will enjoy a much earned evening off! Weeks four and five will include a “hands-on” one week placement on one of IAWAH’s Out There canoe trips as well as one week at IAWAH working behind the scenes learning to care for equipment, plan routes and how to pack for a canoe trip. At the end of the summer, CBs will be invited to join the Out There staff on a three day staff canoe trip.
