IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 2012: Overnight stays are not provided on Saturday nights. Parents are responsible to make arrangements for accommodation between sessions.
Open lakes, whitewater rivers and rock cliffs—they are all there to explore! A typical canoe trip starts each day with breakfast, packing up tents and gear, paddling, portaging, and a swim or two on the way to the next campsite. Rock climbing trips have daily excursions to climbing areas from a tent-camp base site.
Evenings around the campfire allow for a relaxed supper and time to reflect on the events of the day. Guides lead up to nine (9) campers on each trip. No previous experience is required. The level of challenge is adapted to match skill level; appropriate skills are taught during the trip. Trips begin and end at IAWAH; equipment and transportation is provided. Guides (two plus an assistant guide) are experienced wilderness travellers and are certified in canoeing, tripping, first aid, life-guarding and have river rescue training.
Discovery lakes & rivers | ages 10 – 12 | single gender
Boys and girls only! Campers paddle Mazinaw Lake to Crotch Lake beginning at Bon Echo Provincial Park. This 50 km trip is mostly lakewater paddling and does include portaging. Discovery Girls may choose the trip by voyageur canoe on the Rideau Canal system.
Explorer rivers | ages 12-14 | single gender
Campers paddle 50 km of the Madawaska River and are challenged with whitewater. Campers always have the choice to portage around a rapid, but will have the opportunity to run rapids with proven skill development at the discretion of the trip leaders.
EPIC rocks and/or rivers | ages 14-17 | co-ed
The newly redesigned Epic series of trips takes outdoor adventure to the next level. Epic Rivers takes campers onto challenging whitewater and rugged wilderness, while Epic Rocks has students at a base camp while teaching them the art of technical outdoor rock climbing. Epic Rocks and Rivers is for those who want the best of both worlds, and will have an opportunity to try both activities
